The History of the Negroni
The Negroni's origin is generally attributed to being invented at Caffe Casoni in Florence, Italy in 1919 when Count Camillo Negroni asked the bartender to strengthen his favourite cocktail – the Americano – by replacing the soda water with gin. It grew in popularity, with people asking for "one of Count Negroni's drinks" and eventually got shortened to Negroni.
The Negroni was the drink of choice for Ernest Hemingway, he even included references to it in his book "Across the river and into the trees." And in honour of this timeless classic, it actually has it's own week. In Negroni week, bars and restaurants donate the proceeds of their Negroni's to philanthropic organisations. What other cocktail can claim that.
A sophisticated aperitif, the Negroni is a classic Italian drink that we've made even more special by using our Aussie Native gin and barrel ageing it for at least 3 months in oak. And in our Desert Negroni, the addition of the coconut water and dash of sugar water makes it extra silky to the taste.
