Navy strength gin without the burn

Navy strength gin without the burn

There’s a certain type of navy strength gin that seems more interested in proving a point than being enjoyable to drink.

It comes in hard with that massive alcohol hit and plenty of heat. Maybe there's a hint of juniper, if you’re lucky. One sip and your palate feels like you just licked a belt sander.

Yeah... nah. That's not for us, so we designed the Moonshiner Commodore Street Navy Strength Gin to break the mould and lead a mutiny.

All the proof, none of the punishment

For sure, it comes in strong, but the flavour gets there first. Finger lime tears through the glass straight away, sharp and bright, followed by strawberry gum bringing a softer edge underneath. Lemon myrtle keeps everything lifted while dorrigo pepper pulls a gentle earthy warmth through the middle.

Then, just as you think you’ve got the measure of it, that sherbet tang turns up and flips the lid in the best possible way.

It’s a strange twist that's fresh, citrusy, and a little bit electric. It's a flavour that keeps you going back in because your brain’s still trying to process exactly what happened the first time.

An award-winning navy strength gin with flavour at full volume

Commodore Street Navy Strength Gin picked up:

  • Silver at the Australian Gin Awards 2025
  • Silver at the London Spirits Competition 2025, scoring 91 points

The London judges described:

“Oily lemon, vanilla and berry notes rise on the nose, the palate is sweet, peppery and creamy with grassy undertones, finishing with a warm spice and herbal root note.”

The delicate balance is what makes this gin work so beautifully. The citrus lifts, the spice cradles your palate in its loving arms, and the sweeter notes round everything out without veering into dessert territory.

The proof's in the pour

A lot of high-proof spirits flatten once you start mixing them. Commodore Street sails its own seas.

Add tonic and the botanicals still cut through clearly. The finger lime gets brighter, the sherbet note wakes up even more, and the herbal spice settles right into the middle of the drink instead of disappearing behind the bubbles.

Dirty tonic gives it a savoury edge. Indian tonic keeps things crisp and classic. Schweppes brings the sweeter citrus notes forward and turns the whole thing into something far too easy to keep drinking.

Whichever direction you take it, the flavour stays front and centre.

How to serve the Commodore Street Navy Strength Gin

Plenty of ice. Good tonic. Lime wafers and a sprig of rosemary.

That’s all you need because the gin’s already going the hard yards all by itself.

A navy strength gin with a bit more to say

Commodore Street brings all the intensity you’d expect from a navy strength gin, but there’s far more going on beneath the proof.

Big citrus. Native botanicals. Spice that lingers. And enough structure to stay interesting right to the bottom of the glass. Enjoy, sailor!
